Thanks to the materials developed in the international project DESSA, of which Politeknika Ikastegia Txorierri is a partner, teachers from the Training and Labour Orientation module have been provided with dynamic resources to work on soft skills in the classroom.

Every year, around 100 students from the school begin their professional career in order to gain a foothold in the world of work. All of them undertake this new challenge based on the technical skills they develop during their studies, thus making it difficult for them to find a job the labour market as, in many cases, they lack skills that distinguish them from their competitors. At Politeknika Ikastegia Txorierri we have opted to reinforce the social skills of the students, especially those that can be most useful in the workplace, such as negotiation, leadership and motivation, among others.

During the months of November and December, students from middle and higher VET have developed the key competencies to face the world of work through interactive and dynamic tasks, thus reinforcing their communication skills and personal development. Among others, the students have participated in both group and individual tasks in which they have faced real situations in the work environment: how to negotiate a contract, how to present themselves to their colleagues… To do this, and using digital tools, they have reflected on their strengths and weaknesses and have organized workshops for the rest of the students, always with the support of the teacher in the classroom.

The results of these activities have been very positive. In fact, we are already working on the development of new tasks to implement in the classroom soon. Both students and teachers have actively participated and been involved in each activity, claiming to have greatly improved these social skills that are as essential in the world of work as the more technical ones.
