Boosting Circular Economy Competences for STEM Teachers – Circular STEM

DURATION:

2022-2024

MAIN OBJECTIVE:

The project aims to develop a learner-centred methodology for training STEM teachers who teach students aged 13-18, with a specific focus on integrating circular economy (CE) competences into the school curriculum. The project also aims to empower girls in using digital tools and increase their interest in STEM subjects. The project has three main objectives:

      • Train teachers on integrating circular economy concepts into their programs and linking them with the school curriculum, enhancing teachers’ green skills and circular economy awareness, which is then transferred to students.
      • Train teachers to effectively use digital tools in their classes, teaching students proper and safe usage. This objective aims to develop teachers’ digital competences and their ability to design collaborative and innovative lesson plans.
      • Train teachers to stimulate students’ entrepreneurial spirit, particularly in relation to Circular Economy. This objective aligns with the priorities of supporting teachers, school leaders, and teaching professions, as well as addressing environmental concerns and climate change.

MAIN RESULTS:

The project will achieve the following results:

  1. Develop a training methodology for creating lesson plans on STEM subjects that introduce circular economy, digital skills, and entrepreneurial competences. The methodology will be based on a learner-centred approach, aiming to stimulate active participation in classroom activities, utilizing digital tools.
  2. Develop training contents based on real-world challenges, refined through piloting activities organized by partner schools.
  3. Establish the CIRCULAR STEM Academy, an e-learning platform hosting all project results, serving as a central hub for accessing and sharing training materials and resources.
  4. Create a toolbox comprising additional online and offline resources to support the methodology and training contents.

Overall, the project will equip teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to integrate circular economy concepts, digital tools, and entrepreneurial thinking into their teaching practices. This will not only benefit students but will also contribute to the priorities of environmental sustainability and supporting education professionals.
