Supporting the acquisition of Green Skills in VET through work-based learning – GO-GREEN

MAIN OBJECTIVES:

The project aims to increase awareness about the need for green skills to live, work, and act in a sustainable manner. Furthermore, it aims to increase the green skills of VET students.
The project has three main objectives:

  • The project develops an apprenticeship framework for the organization of apprenticeships for the development of green skills, which will also be supported by other outputs (guide for trainers, guide for trainees, orientation guide, self-assessment tool) all focused on raising awareness and development of green skills of students.
  • It also adapts vocational education and training to labor market needs. The project creates and pilots the GREEN apprenticeships (apprenticeship programs focused on the development of green skills of students), which create work-based learning opportunities well aligned to evolving jobs and working methods and key sustainability competences.
  • It also contributes to innovation in vocational education and training. The project aims to substantially change the way in which VET is practiced, making it more relevant to the current and future needs of the economy and society, more specifically the growing need for people to improve and develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to live, work and act in a sustainable manner. The project addresses teaching and learning processes through the development and implementation of new and more relevant apprenticeship programs.

MAIN RESULTS:

The project will achieve the following results:

  1. Creation of a platform with the aim of acquiring Green Skills based on work-based-learning. For that purpose, the following specific activities will be developed:
      1. Study-visit to Rotterdam to observe WBL and how the Dutch partners cultivate Green Skills
      2. Development of an online platform for the acquisition of Green Skills and competences.
      3. Creation of a self-assessment tool to ensure the acquisition of Green Skills
      4. Study-visit to Bilbao to observe WBL and how the Spanish partners cultivate Green Skills
  2. Creation of a framework for the capacity building of the VET trainers that support the acquisition of Green Skills during work-based-learning. For that purpose, the following specific activities will be developed:
      1. Creation Of the Go Green apprenticeship framework
      2. Development of a Trainers Guide
      3. Development of Transnational Training of trainers Workshops
      4. Development of Local Seminar for Trainers
  3. The application of the Go Green apprenticeships
      1. Development of an Orientation Guide
      2. Creation of a Trainees Guide
      3. Conduct the Pilot Apprenticeships

Therefore, as a final overview we can underline that acquisition of key sustainability competences and contemporary employability skills is very important for the project. Its main aim is to increase social and environmental responsibility, increase the capacity building of teachers and trainers and of course, to develop a green and sustainable way of thinking and culture.
